What is Reality?
Reality is a difficult concept to define because people can view reality differently. I consider reality the things that actually happen. Facts and events are pieces of information that are concrete and for the most part, there isn't a way that you can disagree with them. Reality is not about your opinions or the way you want things to be, but the actual way things are. Although I said previously that reality is something that is concrete, this does not necessarily mean that you are able to pick it up and touch it yourself. I do not think that reality can be changed or altered. I think people may interpret reality differently, which is what leads people to have different opinions about things but I think people's perception of reality can be different but the actual interpretation of reality can not.

Academic Integrity Pledge
The night before an exam or the night before a huge paper is do, asking your friends for the answers to the test, or copy and pasting large paragraphs off a website might seem like a good idea, but when you are no longer under the pressure and are able to think clearly, it then can be seen that this is a bad idea. During class today we discussed how the idea of ethics and morals are based off a lot of things: religion, morals, elders, laws, government, society, your conscience, your upbringing and more. In my mind all of these have been combined and I have strongly learned and understood that plagiarizing is wrong. Then when I arrived here at Clemson, they too had their policy about what would happen to you if you cheated. I am here at Clemson because I would like to get a solid education so that I can continue onto find a good job or to graduate school. Risking my success that I could have here but cheating for one assignment does not seem worth it. I would also have to break the news to my parents saying that I have been kicked out of school for something like plagiarizing. All of the trouble that plagiarizing would cause just does not seem worth it for me.
And so, I Marina Scanlon, promise that throughout this course I will not plagiarize for assignments or in any way cheat off of anyone else. By doing this I will respect the professor, myself, and Clemson University as a whole.

For this assignment I analyzed an advertisement for the genocide in Darfur. When you first look at the ad the first words that you see are the large ones "Darfur Action Now." These three words show the thesis of the poster. The author is clearly saying that we need to take action in the situation in Darfur. The second thing I noticed when I looked at this is ad is the smaller words which say,
"400,000 people killed"
"2.5 million people displaced"
"Rape and murder every single day"
"And the genocide continues"
I think the author put these quotations in smaller font because he wanted you to get the main idea first and then he is providing these facts in order to back his opinion up. He says take action, but no one would take action against something when they don't even understand what is going on. The third that you see is pictures of some people and the situations in Darfur.
In this poster the author uses the emotional approach because he knows that in order to get people to help the viewers need to feel sympathetic. So by providing the statistics and the pictures he shows the real side of what is happening, but also by using a bit of exaggeration to make the reader feel more sympathetic.

Hey! My name is Marina Scanlon and I am a freshman here at Clemson University! I'm from a very small town called Sherman in Connecticut and I'm very happy to be in South Carolina. Here at Clemson I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in English. I am not positive about what I want to do with my life once I graduate from here but at the moment I am considering some sort of counseling.
In high school I was involved in soccer, tennis, student government, and Model UN. I have two siblings, a brother who is currently a junior, and a sister who is a sophomore here at Clemson. I have one dog at home, Chassie, and throughout high school I was involved in training seeing eye dogs with the Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
I'me excited about this class and all the fun activities that we will hopefully be doing!
